YES YES YES – St Albans rail freight hub plans blocked by government.
The appeal has been rejected and planning permission refused by Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles.
Well done to Strife
and everyone else who has been involved. Anne Main was Over the Moon.
However – HelioSlough could still appeal to the High Court within the next six weeks.
I stayed over at Littlecote House recently and took along the trusty D40. I had a wonderful time walking around the hotel looking for opportunities to take some photos – especially while my wife was enjoying a massage in the leisure facilities.
I have had the opportunity to play with iPhoto for a couple of hours and – well I believe this – improve some of the photos.
While writing this article, I took an opportunity to update the links on the Littlecote House Wikipedia Page as they were out of date and a couple had no descriptions. This was my first attempt at editing Wikipedia.
Just bought and received a new shed from Millers Garden Buildings. they are in the Albert Bygrave Centre on the A414 between the Park Street Roundabout and the London Colney Roundabout on the east side carriageway.
The shed I ordered from Millers was constructed and installed by Himley Garden Buildings. At the point of ordering I paid a 25% deposit to Millers, the balance not due until the shed was constructed and installed. It took 28 days from order to construction and installation. The best bit was not having to build the shed myself and having 2 experts turn up with the bits and put it up in under 30 minutes!!!!! I did have to make sure there was a flat level base – I just dug up the turf and laid slabs on some sharp sand from B & Q a few months prior to actually ordering the shed.
I found the service from both companies of the highest standard, and still cannot get over that I didn’t need to build it.
Just put a few DVDs on to eBay for sale. Have a look at http://tinyurl.com/368mcc5
I actually got a round to doing something I have intended to do for quite a while – Go and take some pictures of St Albans Abbey. So early evening on a Sunday in March, I went up to the Abbey and took quite a few pictures. I now have an Apple Mac and downloaded a trial of Aperture to see if I could use it. I was fairly impressed with the result of the combination of my original picture and the final version after a bit of touching up in Aperture.

Went for a wander around Frogmore Lakes with the Nikon D40. Went out twice – once with a battery which was almost dead, so didn’t get any photos in. Then later – around sunset – with a fully recharged battery. Felt like a worthwhile walk as the mallard ducks must be in mating season. Whenever 2 males were near a female they had a bit of a row!

Doing a google search for myself, I came across an article on Associated Content where they had used one of the images I took at Glasgow Airport and loaded on to Flickr. I have set all of my images to be allowed to be re-used under Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike (by-sa).
The article found the image from Wikimedia Commons. It looks as though another user has uploaded the picture from flickr.
This is exactly what I hoped for from changing the licence in flickr.
Just read the response to the petition raised against the building of the railfreight terminal near Radlett, Herts.
The Government’s response reads like a softening up exercise before the decision on the Inquiry into the Appeal.
We are committed to the development of a network of Strategic Rail Freight Interchanges across the country that will encourage a shift for freight from road to rail where it is economic and sustainable to do so. These facilities will not only strengthen the rail freight industry, but will also reduce road congestion and carbon emissions.
Describing “These facilities“. Do they mean SRFI’s in general or specifically the facilities proposed at Radlett?
What else has been said
